This two part course combines a live at home Zoom lecture with a hands-on skills session to ensure greater flexibility, protection, and safety measures in response to COVID-19. Upon registration you will receive confirmation to your Zoom lecture which will take place on Friday before your class. You will then attend your skills session the following day.
Prerequisites:
Each student must possess these necessary requirements for RDA licensure prior to enrolling in this course:
- CPR/BLS Certificate (click here)
- CA Dental Practice Act (click here)
- 8-Hr Infection Control (click here)
– or – posses an active RDA license.
Each student must have already completed a Board-approved course in Coronal Polishing. (click here)
Note: This is a 2-day course and 4 patients will be required for the clinical examination.
The first day of the course will consist of didactic (lecture), a final written exam and laboratory practices on a simulated typodont model to achieve minimum competency in pit and fissure sealant application prior to the performance of procedures on patients.
On the second day of the course, you will need to bring 4 clinical patients, which two of the four patients will be used for the clinical examination. Each clinical patient must have a minimum of (4) virgin, non-restored, natural teeth, sufficiently erupted so that a dry field can be maintained for application of the etching, or etchant/bond combination and sealant materials. The clinical examination shall include teeth in all four quadrants for each patient.
All patients must meet the following acceptable criteria:
• Must be 18 years of age, or with a parent/guardian permission letter and signature
• Have Health History
Pit & Fissure Sealant requirement forms will be issued for each patient
16 CEU’s/hours will be provided after completion of course
After course completion, you will be issued evidence of satisfactory completion which must be submitted to the board.

Note:
For candidates applying and testing for licensure as a Registered Dental Assisting on or after January 1, 2010, evidence of pit and fissure sealant certification may either be submitted at the time of application or at the first renewal requiring continuing education of the RDA license.

I think the best part about this class was that I did sealants on my patients for free for practice and now their teeth will be protected from cavities for the next few years!!
